12,775 Days Characters
Emily Wallace:
Emily Wallace, the wife of Scott Freeman of Freeman Financial (yes, she kept her maiden name), is a 35-year-old woman doing the best she can. A mother to 7-year-old Rachael, Emily struggled to find her footing in life after the brutal murder of her father at age 7, her emotionally absent mother not being there during her formative years, and her bitchy lifelong best friend’s manipulation tactics. With a sneaking suspicion that Scott is up to no good, she finds out on her 35th birthday that nobody remembered it was her birthday. After she spills her free Starbucks birthday drink, she goes to get another one only to receive the worst birthday surprise imaginable.
Scott Freeman:
Husband of college sweetheart Emily Wallace, Scott works hard at his wealthy family’s business Freeman Financial. Doting father to Rachael, he’s often away at work and misses the frequent visits to her favorite waterpark Waterfall Lagoon.
Grace Wallace:
Emily’s mother, who has never fully come to terms with her husband’s murder in 1997. Having been left alone to raise their child, she fell into a pit of despair with alcohol and medications, living her life on her dead husband Gary’s life insurance policy. In order to deal with her daughter’s sleep issues, which likely stem from trauma, she sends her to a doctor and has her take medication for the rest of her life.
Megan Brewer:
Emily’s best friend since childhood who she met in Catholic school. While she fiercely defends Emily from the world, she herself is Emily’s tormentor at times. Childless and husbandless in adulthood, Megan desperately wants to fit in with the other high end mothers in the quaint little suburb.
Greta Wallace:
Greta, Gary’s mother, is Emily’s rock in life and seems to understand the strange dreams and sleep issues her granddaughter has. Oddly enough, Greta is Lucy’s grandmother too.
Okay, but who is Lucy?
Lucy Baker:
Lucy is a 20-year-old opiate addict who lives in a trailer in the woods with her emotionally abusive parents and works at the local gas station. She dates Cooper Bennett, and has no idea what a great, handsome guy like him sees in her. After one too many overdoses, Lucy’s life starts to unravel.
Lynnette Baker:
Lucy’s mother who only cares to impress people, lives to upset Lucy, and envies everyone around her.
Harold Baker:
Lucy’s father who only listens to Lynnette, avoids his daughter at all costs, and spends most of his time anywhere but at home. He also thinks his life would have been a lot easier if they stayed childless.
Cooper Bennett:
Lucy’s older boyfriend who would do anything to be with her and help her find happiness.
Why should this book matter?
This book won’t matter to millions, but it matters to me because I pulled the words out from deep within to spill onto paper. There are millions of books in the world, millions of plots, and realistically the chances of this one standing out are pretty slim, but I still want to share it with people.
Every characters thoughts, words, and actions are based on someone or something I found from my past either directly or indirectly.
I ordered the proof copy this weekend and am so excited to recieve it and make the final touches this week.
If you’re here to follow along on this journey (or my millions of others that are way too dispersed) I thank you.
